EN 1176-1
General safety requirements and test methods for permanently installed public playground equipment and surfacing.
Safety & Compliance
Designed for the UAE. Built to recognised international standards.
Our approach
BoomTree designs, manufactures and installs bespoke timber playgrounds in the UAE with safety, accessibility, responsible material selection and long-term maintenance considered from the beginning.
The standards, permits and inspection requirements applied to each project are confirmed according to its location, intended users, equipment and final approved design.

01 / Playground Standards
BoomTree playgrounds are designed in accordance with the applicable parts of the EN 1176 playground safety series. The standards applied to each project are selected according to its equipment and final design.
General safety requirements and test methods for permanently installed public playground equipment and surfacing.
Guidance covering installation, inspection, maintenance and operation.
Impact-attenuating playground surfacing and testing of critical fall heights.
Applicable standards may include EN 1176-2 for swings, EN 1176-3 for slides, EN 1176-4 for cableways and zip lines, EN 1176-5 for carousels, EN 1176-6 for rocking equipment, EN 1176-10 for fully enclosed play equipment and EN 1176-11 for spatial networks.
Relevant GCC adaptations include GSO EN 1176-1:2021 and GSO EN 1177:2018+A1:2025.
Applicable standards are selected according to the equipment type and final project design.
02 / Dubai Compliance
DM-HSD-GU02-SEPA2 Version 5.0 covers age-appropriate design, safe entrances and exits, circulation, equipment separation, safety zones, fire-resistant materials, ventilation, electrical and fire safety, emergency planning, risk assessment, installation, inspection, maintenance and accident reporting.
DM-HSD-GU121-PEAP2 provides the Dubai Municipality procedure for permit issuance for play areas and events.
Where third-party inspection is required, the applicable inspection framework includes EIAC-REQ-IB-06.
Applicable standards, permits and inspection requirements are confirmed for each project according to its location, client and equipment scope.
03 / Accessible Play
BoomTree incorporates the relevant playground provisions of Section 6.21 of the Dubai Universal Design Code into applicable projects.
Visual, auditory and tactile play opportunities.
Smooth, firm and hazard-free play surfaces.
Rubber or compacted-sand surfacing where applicable.
At least 50% of expected activities usable by children regardless of functional limitations.
Sun-exposed materials that do not reach skin-damaging temperatures.
Consideration of electrostatic effects that could interfere with hearing aids.
04 / Responsible Materials
BoomTree uses pressure-treated European pine and commercial-grade components selected for durability, safety and long-term performance in UAE conditions.
BoomTree uses pressure-treated European pine supplied by De Haarlemse Houthandel B.V., which holds valid PEFC Chain of Custody certification.
Country of harvest: Germany. The supplier confirms the material as pine but does not provide species-level identification.
The timber is treated for outdoor use through an industrial vacuum-pressure process using Tanalith E 3475, a copper-based wood preservative manufactured by Arch Timber Protection, Koppers.
Projects may include galvanised or stainless-steel components, UV-stable slides and panels, commercial-grade ropes and impact-attenuating safety surfacing tested to EN 1177. Exact specifications depend on the approved project design.
Supplier credential
PEFC certification applies to qualifying timber supplies supported by the relevant invoice or delivery documentation. It does not automatically certify the completed playground.
Supporting record
The current Safety Data Sheet held for Tanalith E 3475 is Version 1.0, revised on 17 April 2026, in CLP-compliant format. The hazard information relates to the concentrated treatment chemical before application, not to the cured, dry timber used in finished playground equipment. Full documentation is available on request.
05 / Documentation
Depending on the agreed project scope, BoomTree can provide the documentation required to support tender evaluation, installation, inspection and ongoing maintenance.
For tender submissions, contact BoomTree to confirm the required documentation and submission deadline.
Beyond installation
BoomTree designs for the full playground lifecycle, including responsible procurement, fabrication, installation, planned maintenance, repair, adaptation and documented end-of-life decisions.
Routine visual and safety inspections are recommended, with planned preventive maintenance undertaken at least every six months.
Individual components can be repaired or replaced where appropriate to extend asset life and reduce unnecessary waste.
Structures may be refreshed, reconfigured or expanded where technically suitable and safe.
Metal and suitable non-timber components may be separated for recycling. Treated timber must be handled through an authorised waste route and must not be burned, composted or used as mulch.
Project assurance
Warranty terms are subject to the relevant project certificate, correct installation, use and maintenance requirements. Exclusions apply as detailed in the final project documentation.
Approved documents
Playground standards, Dubai requirements, accessible play provisions and project-assurance documentation.
Timber sourcing, treatment, materials, lifecycle planning, maintenance and warranty information.
Start with clarity
Planning a school, nursery, residential, hospitality or community playground? Talk to BoomTree about the standards, documentation and inspection requirements for your project.
Standards, certification claims and supporting documentation are project-dependent. Final project specifications, supplier certificates, transaction records, inspection reports and contractual documents take precedence over general website statements.
